MATTEO SPREAFICO LEADS THE TOUR TO VENEZUELA AFTER WINNING THE CHRONO

CARACAS. Italian cyclist Matteo Spreafico (Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec) put on the leader's jersey of the 55th edition of the Vuelta a Venezuela on Monday after winning the fifth stage, a 34.5-kilometer individual time trial with start at the Sanctuary of the Virgin of the Coromoto and arrival in Guanare.

Spreafico spent 45 minutes and 41 seconds completing the course, a record that no other runner could improve. The Venezuelans Carlos Galvis (Deportivo Táchira) and Clever Martínez (Government of Carabobo) finished second and third, respectively, at 16 and 30 seconds.

The Italian of Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec now commands the general with 1 minute and 40 seconds of rent on the premises José Alarcón and his compatriot Ángel Rivas, both of the Miranda-Trek Government team.

The Vuelta a Venezuela will continue this Tuesday with the dispute of its sixth stage, of 215.7 kilometers between Ospino and Nirgua. (www.esciclismo.com)
