One of the most anticipated cycling specialties will be the route, which includes the individual time trial and the route. For the first time in the Pan American Games there will be seven days between them, which will cause many riders to double up, among them the Cuban Arlenis Sierra, one of the stars of world cycling.

The time trial will begin on the morning of October 22 in the Plaza de Armas of Isla de Maipo (8:00 a.m. for women and 12:00 p.m. for men) and will be one of the first medals awarded in this continental appointment. Several streets in the community will be closed for the development of the competition.

As an attraction there will be two of the Pan American champions of the last event held in Panama 2023, the Colombian Walter Vargas (elite) and the Chilean Héctor Exequiel Quintana (sub 23), while among the ladies the Cuban Arlenis Sierra, title holder in the specialty during the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, aspires to achieve its first gold in this modality, having accumulated two on the route of Guadalajara 2011 and Lima 2019.

As for the route on October 29, the start and finish is planned in the Plaza de la Aviación, Providencia, with turns up and down through the Metropolitan Park, promising excitement and the fatigue of dozens of legs. The platoon will pass through Plaza Baquedano, Santa María Avenue, the Metropolitan Park (Parquemet) to the Pirámide, returning along Andrés Bello Avenue.

It will be precisely on the hill that crowns the Virgin Mary where the highest port of the pedal competition will be, at 758 meters above sea level, specifically in Plaza Antilén. The route includes seven turns for the women’s race (122.5 kilometers) and nine for the men (157.5 km), the first starting at 9:00 in the morning and the second at 12:00 in the afternoon.

A novelty that the road cycling event will have at the Pan American Games will be that the Falcons of the Chilean Air Force will be taking to the skies during the start of the race.

In total there will be 18 nations that will have representatives in these road tests. Chile, Brazil Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Argentina, Ecuador, Bermuda, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Dominican, United States, Panama, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela. The champions of the Cali 2021 Youth Pan American Games will also be invited.
