With time trials in the women’s, men’s under 23 and men’s elite categories, the Panama 2023 Central American Road Championship will begin this Friday, attended by riders from six countries and which will serve as a prelude to the Pan American Road Championship (April 18-23).
According to the Panamanian Cycling Federation (Fepaci), in the fight until Sunday cyclists from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama will be measured, who seek to add points for the UCI continental ranking and win the most important of Central American cycling.
The event will take place in the marine section of the Cinta Costera, in the capital. Panama is the current Central American champion and hopes to defend the title at home. This competition will also add points within the International Cycling Union (UCI) for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, indicated Fepaci.
Regarding the appointment, Damaris Young, president of the Panamanian Olympic Committee, highlighted that events like these are what make the difference for our athletes to get involved in front of their families, of course, trying to achieve their dreams and reach important sports competitions. .
In the time trial this Friday there are 10 registered women, with the Panamanian Wendy Ducreux as the favorite to prevail in the 22.5 kilometer test; while in the sub 23 category for men, agreed at 30 kilometers, a rivalry centered on the Costa Rican Dylan Jiménez and the local Bredio Ruiz is expected.
As for the elite category, the fight over 37.5 kilometers will be focused on the Guatemalan Manuel Rodas, the Costa Rican Gabriel Roijas and the Panamanians Christofer Jurado, Bolívar Espinosa and Franklin Archibold.
The president of Fepaci, Vicente Carretero, told the accredited press that these days Panama brings together the best cyclists in America, and highlighted that the canal country is in third place in the ranking and number one in Central America.
