Mexican cyclist Yareli Acevedo won the bronze medal today in the madison event, her second medal at the Track Cycling World Cup, which concludes on March 8 in Perth, Australia.

Acevedo teamed up with her compatriot Sofía Arreola to return to the podium at the competition, after winning the elimination race on the first day of events.

The Mexican cyclists totaled 640 points and were surpassed by the Japanese pair Maho Kakita and Tsuyaka Uchino (800) and the Australian duo Alyssa Polites and Keira Will (720), who took gold and silver, respectively.

On this second day, China’s Liying Yuan led the sprint, Malaysia’s Mohd Azizulhasni Awan triumphed in the keirin, and Japan’s Shunsuke Imamura won the omnium.

To close out this first round, the men will compete for the top prizes in the madison and sprint, while the women will vie for the medals in the keirin and omnium.

The Track Cycling World Cup, which began in Perth, replaces the Nations Cup and will continue with two more series in Hong Kong, China (April 17-19) and Nilai, Malaysia (April 24-26).

Each event will include the full Olympic track cycling program: keirin, individual and team sprint, madison, team pursuit, and omnium, in addition to the qualifying race, for a total of 14 events over three days of competition at the velodrome.
