Great news for Colombian and Latin American cycling! The Laureus World Sports Academy has revealed the list of nominees for the prestigious 2026 Laureus Awards, distinguished accolades that recognize the best in world sport after each season, and the list includes none other than the formidable Colombian road cyclist Egan Bernal.
The nominations, which include the biggest stars of last year, include the cyclist from Zipaquirá among the candidates for the «Comeback of the Year» award, where he shares the nomination with his fellow professional, the British cyclist Simon Yates; the Venezuelan athlete Yulimar Rojas; the American tennis player Amanda Anisimova; the English footballer Leah Williamson; and the British golfer Rory McIlroy.
Among the reasons for his nomination were his crowning as national time trial and road race champion last year, as well as his performance in the 2025 Vuelta a España, where he achieved his first Grand Tour victory since the serious accident that nearly cost him his life in 2022.
The Colombian cyclist, who is the only Colombian athlete among the nominees in the eight categories awarded by the Academy, is joined by other cyclists. Slovenian Tadej Pogacar is nominated for ‘Male Athlete of the Year,’ and Briton Tom Pidcock is nominated for ‘Action Athlete of the Year.
