The Australian sprinter, winner of multiple stages in grand tours, confirmed his decision via Instagram with a lengthy statement also shared by the British team.

“For my whole life the world has revolved around racing. The intense routine, the sacrifice, the constant search for improvement, the hunger to win… it’s been my rhythm, my identity. But what used to mean everything to me, no longer does,” Ewan wrote.

The news comes unexpectedly, especially since the 30-year-old seemed to be back to his best after signing with Ineos Grenadiers at the last minute for this season. This addition had been a renaissance in his career, after some discreet seasons with Lotto and Jayco-AlUla, a team with which he had a complicated start.

“Even when I crossed the line first, that feeling you fight for for years disappeared faster than before. My experiences in the last two seasons, especially in the second half of 2024, have worn down my relationship with the sport tremendously,” added the Australian.

Ewan bids a proud farewell to what he achieved with the British team: “I’m glad I didn’t let that period define the end of my career, and I’m proud of what I achieved in this brief but successful time with Ineos Grenadiers.”

In his 11 years as a professional, Caleb Ewan stood out especially in the GreenEdge team, being one of the most dominant sprinters in the peloton in recent times. His track record includes five stage victories in the Tour de France, five in the Giro d’Italia and two second places in Milan-San Remo.
