On a demanding day with many attacks, Carlos Verona (Lidl-Trek) won stage 15 of the Giro d’Italia 2025 by winning from the breakaway. The Spanish rider signed his second win as a professional and his first in a grand tour, after riding 219 kilometers between Fiume Veneto and Asiago.
Verona took the solo win with a 22-second advantage. Second was Florian Stork (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) and third was Italian Christian Scaroni (XDS Astana Team). In the fight for the overall, Primoz Roglic (Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe) lost more than a minute to Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates – XRG), Egan Bernal (Inoes Grenadiers) and the rest of the favorites.
The group with the ‘Gallos de la General’ arrived 29 seconds behind the escapees. Filippo Fiorelli (VF Group – Bardiani CSF – Faizanè) took the bunch, while Einer Rubio (Movistar Team) was the best Colombian in eleventh place.
In the first stage of high mountains, the climb to Monte Grappa (25 km at 5.7%) crowned by the Italian Lorenzo Fortunato, where Einer Rubio and Daniel Felipe Martinez were protagonists of a large breakaway, but after half of the route all members of the breakaway ended up being neutralized by the group of favorites.
Zipaquireño Egan Bernal also tried, taking with him Isaac del Toro, Richard Carapaz and Thymen Arensman, but they were caught a few kilometers ahead. Then, another breakaway of seven riders was formed. In the end, Carlos Verona went solo and won the stage.
The Italian round will face its third week from Tuesday with a super mountainous stage starting in Piazzola sul Brenta and finishing in San Valentino, over a 203-kilometer route, which includes four categorized passes and a super explosive finish of 18.1 km at 6.2%.
