The city of Armenia will host, for the first time in the country’s history, the South American BMX Freestyle Championship, an unprecedented international event to be held on November 15 and 16 at the track in the Armenia Olympic Village, located next to the Centenario Stadium.
This competition, which brings together several of the continent’s best riders in one of the youngest and most promising disciplines in world cycling, represents a milestone for Colombia and a decisive boost for the growth of BMX Freestyle in the country and South America.
The championship will be contested in the Park and Flatland disciplines and will feature the participation of outstanding athletes from Chile (Iván Galdames), Uruguay (Mateo Lluberas), Peru (Arnol Montañez), and Venezuela (Katherine Diaz); in addition to top Colombian riders, including Queen Saray Villegas, an Olympic diploma recipient at Paris 2024 and a finalist at the World Championships in Saudi Arabia. Lizsurley Villegas, the current Pan American champion in this discipline, and Luis Rincón, national champion and champion of the Bicentennial Bolivarian Games, will arrive in Armenia seeking the UCI points awarded by this important continental competition, crucial for their international ranking.
The event is made possible thanks to the support of the Ministry of Sport, the Mayor’s Office of Armenia, the Municipal Institute of Sport and Recreation of Armenia (Imdera), and the Pan American Cycling Confederation, institutions committed to the development and popularization of the sport.
Likewise, the Colombian Cycling Federation highlights the support of a key strategic partner: the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and the National Tourism Fund – Fontur, which make it possible for this event, held in “The Land of Beauty,” to reach thousands of homes across the continent.
Thanks to this initiative, the championship will be streamed live on the Colombian Cycling Federation’s official YouTube and Facebook channels, @fedeciclismocolombia, allowing fans throughout South America to enjoy the talent, evolution, and spectacle of BMX Freestyle.
This weekend, Armenia will become the epicenter of continental urban cycling, reaffirming Colombia’s commitment to organizing high-level events and promoting the sport in all its forms.
