Dutch cyclist Marjolei Vant Geloof, of the Laboral Kutxa-Euskadi team, won the IV Grand Prix Costa del Sol-Usulután this Wednesday after covering 76 kilometers on a mostly flat stage.
A compact peloton, after nearly two hours of pedaling, surged towards the finish line upon reaching the city of Usulután, after a mostly flat route occasionally buffeted by strong winds.
This was the last Grand Prix of the year after the cancellation of the remaining two by decision of the Organizing Committee.
During the race, no breakaways materialized, and the main teams kept a close eye on each other until reaching the finish line in a compact formation, where the Dutch rider outpaced the other competitors.
With Wednesday’s victory, the Laboral Kutxa-Euskadi team achieved eight podium finishes across the Tour and the four Grand Prix races held since January 16th, with fellow European rider Cogeas Roland as their main rival.
Colombian Paula Patiño of Laboral Kutxa had a stellar performance, winning the overall classification of the 2016 Tour of El Salvador and one of the Grand Prix races.
