In a demanding day, Diana Carolina Peñuela (Team Sistecredito) was victorious in the first stage of the Vuelta a Colombia Femenina 2025. The opening day took place between Cajicá and Girardot with a distance of 143.8 kilometers.
The rider from Antioquia was the fastest in the definition and sealed the victory in the bunch ahead of Lina Marcela Hernández (Mujeres Antioquia-Orgullo Paisa) and Karen González (LC Pro Cycling), who finished second and third, respectively.
The undulating fraction, which had some climbs, was controlled by the favorite teams, which made it impossible to form breakaways in the final part, so everything was defined by the sprint.
The leader of Team Sistecrédito, Diana Peñuela, ratified her condition of favorite and became the first leader of the Colombian round when she was victorious this Tuesday, June 10.
“First goal achieved, tremendous team work. Impressive the launch, at the end we got a rumor that they had shortened four kilometers to the finish line and we were super confused, then if it was, but well we were attentive and ahead super pending of everything, “said Peñuela, once the stage was over.
The 38-year-old rider won the segment by being the strongest in the group definition, crossing the finish line first with a time of 3 hours, 19 minutes and 43 seconds. “Finally, a super long sprint, a little chaotic as always, but well things worked out thanks to my whole team. Happy, great stage,” added the experienced cyclist from Caldas.
Finally, the manizalita referred to the high level of the Colombian round. “I remember when we started cycling and anyone who tried to go down fast, the rest of the peloton would say be careful, you want to kill us, and now they all want to kill each other (laughing), incredible!
This Wednesday will be the second stage of the Colombian women’s round, with a mountainous day of 114.8 kilometers between Girardot and the mythical Alto de la Línea.
