The Ecuadorian cyclist Harold Martín López, 24 years old, added this weekend a new feat to his brilliant season, when he was crowned champion of the Tour of Hungary.

This 2025 is being a dream year for the cyclist from Ibarra, who had already won the Tour of Greece a few weeks ago. In Hungary, he won the overall title after an outstanding performance in the third stage – where he won with authority – and held the lead until the end of the competition.

López’s victory was confirmed in the fifth and final stage, won by Colombian Juan Molano. That result favored the Ecuadorian, who finished the Tour with a cumulative time of 19:56:53, beating the Italian Alessandro Covi, of UAE Team Emirates, by just seven seconds.

Harold Martín López, member of the Astana Qazaqstan Team -one of the UCI World Tour teams-, took the overall lead in the third stage of the Tour of Hungary and defended it solidly until he was crowned champion. It is, without a doubt, the best year of his professional career so far.

The career of Martín López

Lopez began his professional career in 2019, at just 19 years old, when he was signed by Movistar Team. He then went through the BEST PC team and, in 2022, he joined Astana, first as part of the development team and, from 2024, as part of the main World Tour team.

Despite his short career, he already accumulates important achievements. In 2019 he won a stage in the Vuelta a Costa Rica, and in 2020 two stages in the Vuelta a Guatemala. In 2025, his season has been spectacular: champion of the Tour of Greece, champion of the Tour of Hungary (including a stage), and winner of a stage in the Tour of Turkey.

With these results, Harold Martín López confirms his status as one of the revelations of Ecuadorian and world cycling.
