The Panamanian cyclist Franklin Archibold continues writing his history in the so-called “old continent”, where this Monday, June 9, he was again on the podium of a pedal race in Spain.

It is the XXIX edition of the Circuito Montañés, whose first stage was run today, placing Archibold in the second position after the 129.1 kilometers of the route and entering the finish line with the same time of the winner of the day who was Iker Gómez López de Goicoechea (Finisher/Kern Pharma), with 3 hours 02 minutes and 46 seconds.

The outcome of this first stage, a circuit in the town of Renedo, was a sprint between the Spanish Lopez de Goicoechea, Franklin Archibold (Natural Greatness-Rali-Ale) and the also local Victor Castellano (Gomur Cantabria Infinita) who entered the line with two seconds difference in third place.

A total of 25 teams took off on this first day of the race riding on flat territory, unlike this Tuesday that there will be seven mountain prizes on the route.

The second stage will be this Tuesday, June 10 and will have a distance of 156.4 kilometers with start and finish in Santillana del Mar, contemplating seven mountain prizes of third category and two intermediate sprints.

Santillana del Mar is one of the towns with great historical value on Spanish soil and is very important for tourism in the region of Cantabria.

“We have felt very good in the competitions we are facing here. The level is good, the style of racing is different and we will continue giving all our effort while we are in Spain, thanks for this great opportunity that has been given to me,” said Archibold.

The rider from the province of Chiriqui, at the beginning of this month of June had already won the Circuit of Murcia, and has even been a protagonist in the mountains, so today Tuesday he will have another open door to continue demonstrating his qualities.

Archibold this year became the two-time Central American Road Champion and is in a preparation plan for the Tour of Panama, between July 20 and 27, 2025 and the Central American Games in October.
