Thanks to the drive and skill of young José Manuel Posada, Colombia secured its first gold medal at the 2026 Pan American Road Cycling Championships in Montería, winning decisively in the junior men’s individual time trial.

The cyclist from Antioquia was the fastest in the 22.2-kilometer time trial held this Tuesday in Montería, Córdoba. The silver medal went to Chilean Luciano Carrizo, and Venezuelan Andrés López completed the podium.

“I wanted to give my country its first gold medal of this competition. I am very proud to have achieved it. It was a course I knew, one I had raced many times, and I knew the heat would be intense, but I also prepared for that,” the winner told COPACI.

After receiving the award from the head of the International Cycling Union, Davids Lappartient, the new champion decided to send the flowers he had been given to the audience. It was a touching moment when his girlfriend, who applauded him with emotion, received them.

Colombia maintained its dominance in this event at the Pan American Road Cycling Championships, as the previous four editions had been won, in this order, by Jerónimo Calderón, Robinson Rincón, and Germán and Darío Gómez, all of whom have gone on to successful professional careers.

The top five in the time trial was completed by Chilean Jaime Carreño, 32 seconds behind Posada, and Colombian Emanuel Restrepo, one minute behind his compatriot.
