This Friday the eighth stage of the 80th edition of the traditional Tour of Uruguay, a stage race organized by the Uruguayan Cycling Federation, was run and after 175.8 kilometers Leonel Rodríguez won.

The competitor of the Club Ciclista Cerro Largo, after a great final sprint, crossed the finish line in Trinidad, capital of Flores, in a time of four hours, seven minutes and 29 seconds.

The podium was completed by Roderyck Asconeguy, from Club Ciclista Audax, and the Argentinean Lucas Gaday, from Dolores Cycles Club.

With a little more than 5 kilometers to go, Agustín Alonso, from Club Náutico de Boca del Cufré, broke away, but the peloton, which tightened, arrived in one piece and ended up with Rodríguez’s victory.

After today’s stage, the overall individual classification is still led by Brazilian Vínicius Rangel (Swift Pro Cycling). Second is also the northern rider Metzger and third is the Venezuelan Francisco Puñuela, of the Venezuelan national team.

The 80th edition of the Tour of Uruguay is slowly coming to an end and after the eighth stage that took place this Friday and joined Durazno and Trinidad with a 176-kilometer route, now there are two decisive days ahead.

This Saturday the peloton will have the ninth stage that will go from Santa Lucia (Canelones) to Maldonado with a stretch of 165 kilometers.

Finally, Sunday April 20 will be the defining day of the Vuelta with the tenth and final stage that will link Maldonado and Montevideo with 145 kilometers of route.
