The young Colombian cyclist Luciana Osorio makes history in Punta del Este and is crowned twice Pan American road champion after winning the 65.5 kilometers race, which took place this Friday in Uruguay.
Osorio won the gold medal after winning the long-distance race in the Pan American Road Championship, adding the fourth title for Colombia in Uruguayan territory, and her second gold medal in the event organized by COPACI and the Municipality of Maldonado.
The rider from Antioquia climbed to the top of the podium accompanied by her compatriot Yalecza Valentina Marín, who won the silver medal in the mass sprint. The podium of the junior race was completed by Guadalupe Díaz from Argentina.
With this new triumph Luciana Osorio continues to expand her sporting achievements and becomes one of the best youth cyclists in the region after being champion of the Vuelta del Futuro 2023, national youth champion of the CRI and Ruta 2024, champion of the CRI and Ruta in the Bolivarian Youth Games Sucre 2024, and Pan American champion of the CRI and Ruta in Brazil 2024.
Luciana achieved a time of 1:55.48, followed by Marín who crossed the finish line with the same time, in a great sprint where the Colombians were faster than their rivals from Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Brazil, Peru and Mexico, who arrived with an option at the end of the race. The podium was completed by the Argentinean Guadalupe Diaz, with the same time as the Colombians.
In the same circuit, but giving nine laps (117 kilometers), the junior men’s race was disputed in which the breakaway had a great success; an attack of up to eight members could reach the final kilometers, with the Venezuelan Diego Parra as great figure, to give the whiplash and seek the goal alone, winning by one second to Mario Sanchez (Bolivia) and Raimundo Carvajal (Chile).
After the third day of the Pan American Road Championship, Colombia leads the medals table with 4 golds, 5 silvers and 1 bronze, getting closer to a new general title.
On Saturday, the penultimate day of competition, the elite women’s and U23 men’s long-distance races will take place, starting at 7 am.
