In a steep climb, Venezuelan Luis Mora (Gobernación de Trujillo) took victory in the second stage of the 2025 Tour of Venezuela, soloing a 179.1-kilometer stage between La Fría and Mérida.
Mora emerged victorious ahead of Colombian Juan Carlos López (GW Erco Shimano) and his compatriot and teammate Luis Mora (Gobernación de Trujillo), who finished in the top three of the stage.
The stage, which began in the state of Táchira, came alive in the initial phase, when a break formed with locals Alexander Castaneira (Revivir-Produgar Caracas), Jhonny Araujo (Gobernación de Trujillo), and José Andrés Díaz (Fina Arroz-Multimarcas Sport).
The trio’s adventure ended when the terrain began to slope, where the group of favorites began to lose members, leaving a very small group at the front of the race in the transition to the climb to Mérida.
Regarding the overall standings, after the mountainous stage, there were significant changes. Luis Guillermo Mora (Trujillo Governor’s Office) took the lead. The Venezuelan is at the top of the podium, accompanied by Colombian Juan Carlos López (GW Erco Shimano), who is second, and his compatriot Juan Ruiz (Trujillo Governor’s Office), third.
The Venezuelan Tour will continue this Tuesday with the third stage of the nine scheduled, a hilly 141-kilometer journey between the towns of Lagunillas and Santa Elena de Arenales. The successor to last year’s champion, Walter Vargas from Antioquia, will be known on Sunday in the state of Miranda.
