With the mountains taking center stage, Oscar Onley (Team Picnic PostNL) emerged victorious in the fifth stage of the 2025 Tour de Suisse, a leg-breaking 183.8-kilometer stage with four categorized mountain passes, contested between La Punt and Santa Maria in Calanca. Meanwhile, Frenchman Kévin Vauquelin (Arkéa – B&B Hotels) took the lead in the Swiss race.

The British rider won the duel with Portuguese João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates – XRG), who finished second. Austrian Felix Gall (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team) finished third, 23 seconds behind, while Colombian Nairo Quintana (Movistar Team) finished 56th, more than 18 minutes behind the winner.

Today it was the climbers’ turn in the Swiss race, with the mountain passes of Julier Pass (7.3 km at 6.5%), Sufnersee (10.1 km at 4.5%), San Bernardino Pass (7.5 km at 6%), and Castaneda (4.5 km at 9.8%), which were climbed twice.

In the opening stages of the day, an early break formed with American Neilson Powless (EF Education – EasyPost), Russian Aleksandr Vlasov (Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe), Italian Lorenzo Fortunato (XDS Astana Team), and Spaniards Javier Romo (Movistar Team) and Pello Bilbao (Bahrain – Victorious), but in the closing stages, all were caught by the group of favorites.

The Swiss race will continue this Friday with the sixth stage, a hilly 186.7-kilometer stage between Chur and Neuhausen am Rheinfall, which features two second-category mountain prizes.
