Many rumors circulated about Richard Carapaz’s future in 2026, with reports indicating the possibility of the Ecuadorian cyclist returning to Movistar Team or trying his luck with another team. However, the “Carchi Locomotive” remains with EF Education-EasyPost.

Carapaz has decided to continue with the North American team (which he has represented since 2022) and is preparing for the start of the new season, where his biggest challenge will be the upcoming Giro d’Italia (a race that will take place from Friday, May 8th to Sunday, May 31st).

The 32-year-old climber, leader and key figure of EF Education, has established a race schedule with his team designed to ensure he arrives in peak form for the Giro d’Italia. His first challenge is the Challenge Mallorca 2026, a competition comprised of five independent one-day races taking place from January 28th to February 1st.

Thus, Richard Carapaz’s first appearance on the European professional cycling calendar will be the Trofeo Calvià, held this Wednesday, January 28th. This race is known for its demanding medium-mountain course, suited to climbers and explosive riders.

Prior to the Giro d’Italia, the Ecuadorian rider will also compete in the 63rd edition of the Trofeo Laigueglia, a classic race taking place next Wednesday, March 4th. This demanding 201km course winds through the Italian hills of Laigueglia and Alassio.

Finally, according to reports regarding Richard Carapaz, the Tirreno-Adriatico (March 9-15) is another race the Ecuadorian will have on his radar, a stage race that combines flat stages with high mountain stages.
