Today was a great day for Robert Plazas in the Tour de Martinique. The talented rider from Boyacá, who represents Team Guerreros Avinal, excelled in the eighth stage, which takes place in the Caribbean.

The Beetle emerged victorious on the 122.8-kilometer route that linked the towns of Trois-Ilets and François. Swiss rider Eric Weckerle (UC Haguenau) finished second, and Australian Tyler Tomkinson (Martigues SC-Payden & Rygel) finished third.

The victory helped Plazas move into the top five of the individual general classification, led by Guadeloupe native Taïno Cailliau (Guadeloupe National Team), who completed his third day wearing yellow.

After nine days of competition, following a prologue and eight road stages, Robert Andrés Plazas from Boyacá (Team Guerreros Avinal) remained the top Colombian in the overall standings.

The ninth day of the Caribbean round will take place this Saturday with a 102.2-kilometer hilly stage between Francois and Riviere-Pilote. The successor to last year’s champion, Stéfan Bennett, from France, will be announced next Monday in Lamentin.
