Jacó, Costa Rica – Cyclist Sebastián Calderón (7C Economy Hyundai) was the grand winner of the CRC 506 UCI Gran Fondo Davivienda, held this Sunday on a demanding 141.4-kilometer route between Jacó and Quepos, and back to Jacó.

The event is part of the prestigious UCI Gran Fondo World Series and is the only official UCI Gran Fondo in Costa Rica that qualifies cyclists for the World Gran Fondo Championships, which will be held in Lorne, Victoria, Australia, from October 16 to 19, 2025.

Calderón won with an unofficial time of 3:08:28. Second place went to Marcos Sánchez (Distribuidora Cruz Tecnoforest Trama Atómica) with a time of 3:09:24, while third place went to Pablo Mudarra (Colono Bikestation Kolbi), who crossed the finish line in 3:09:26.

The competition began at 7:00 a.m. at the Garabito Civic Center in Jacó, with the participation of national and international cyclists who enjoyed the sporting challenge amid the spectacular landscapes of the Costa Rican Central Pacific.

In the women’s division, the winner of the Gran Fondo was American cyclist Stephanie Clark with a time of 3:22:30, second place went to Melisa Ávila with a time of 3:26:38, and Natalia Jiménez completed the podium with a time of 3:26:40.

“A very nice course, which I love: very hot and tough, it’s very good for me. I knew how to read the race and attacked at the right time to finish alone. The return was quite narrow and technical, which I liked. I hope this race continues to be held for many years to come,” commented winner Sebastián Calderón after the competition.

In the 69.8 km Middle Distance race, starting in Quepos and finishing in Jacó, Gustavo Mesén won with a time of 1:39:38, followed by Marvin Campos with a time of 1:43:17, and third place went to Juan de la Cruz Alvarado with a time of 1:51:29.

In the women’s Middle Distance race, first place went to Anabell Calderón with a time of 1:56:16, second place to Yessenia Torres with a time of 3:01:04, and third place to Sandra Pacheco with a time of 3:06:13.

All results are unofficial; the list of world championship qualifiers will be published on the event’s official channels between Monday and Tuesday. Medals will be awarded at the EVE Showroom in Heredia, from Wednesday, August 27 to Saturday, September 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The event was officially endorsed by the Costa Rican Cycling Federation (FECOCI), consolidating its position as a benchmark event for national and international cycling.
