Guatemalan cyclist Sergio Chumil, of the Burgos-BH team, was crowned the 2025 national Individual Time Trial champion this weekend in an exciting day held in Los Altos, Quetzaltenango.

Guatemalan cyclist Sergio Chumil, of the Burgos-BH team, made history by becoming the 2025 national Individual Time Trial champion in an exciting day held in Los Altos, Quetzaltenango. The young cyclist managed to surpass the experienced Manuel Rodas, multiple national champion and a historic figure in Guatemalan cycling.

Chumil completed the 30-kilometer course with an outstanding time, demonstrating his growth at the highest level of European cycling. The route, designed along the highway that connects parts of Los Altos, featured mixed conditions, with uphill, downhill, and flat sections that tested each rider’s tactical and physical abilities. The surprise of the day was, without a doubt, the final result. Manuel Rodas was one of the dominant time trialists in Guatemala.

Chumil’s victory not only represents a new national champion, but also the generational shift that is beginning to take shape in high-performance cycling in the country. The rider, who rides for the Spanish team Burgos-BH, has been gaining experience in professional races in Europe, which has allowed him to improve his performance significantly.

The event was organized by the Guatemalan Cycling Federation and featured the participation of the country’s best riders. In addition to Chumil and Rodas, renowned riders also participated, seeking to position themselves among the best in the country in this demanding discipline.

This result also projects Chumil as one of Guatemala’s strong suits for international competitions in 2025, including UCI trials and the Central American Games. With this pace and competitive level, his presence in elite competitions will continue to be talked about.

Guatemalan cycling thus celebrates a day where youth took the lead with authority.
