From August 24 to September 5, 2027, the French region of Haute-Savoie will be the epicenter of world cycling with the second edition of the Super Cycling World Championships, an event that will bring together 20 world championships in one location, in what is already shaping up to be the most ambitious event in the history of the sport.
A model inspired by the success of Glasgow 2023
This multidisciplinary format debuted in 2023 in Glasgow, Scotland, where 13 world cycling championships in different disciplines were organized together for the first time. With more than 8,000 cyclists from 120 countries, the experience was a resounding success in terms of both participation and impact: more than one billion television viewers, an unprecedented audience for a cycling event.
Glasgow marked a turning point in the UCI’s strategy, which now seeks to consolidate this “mega-event” model every four years. In 2027, the scale will be even greater.
Super World Championships Haute-Savoie 2027
The Super World Championships in Haute-Savoie will feature:
20 world championships
12 different venues
13 days of competition
More than 10,000 athletes
281 titles up for grabs
More than 130 countries represented
An expected attendance of 2 million spectators, 700 accredited journalists, and more than 4,000 volunteers.
Mountain biking returns to Les Gets
Mountain biking will play a central role in the event, with its four main disciplines spread across two of the most iconic destinations in the French Alps:
Cross-country (XCO) and Downhill (DH): These will be held in Les Gets, which already hosted the World Championships in 2022 and hosts international events every season.
Marathon (XCM) and Enduro: These will take place in the Grand Massif area, known for its technical high-mountain trails.
Les Gets is considered one of the best MTB venues in the world, both for the difficulty and spectacular nature of its courses and for its organizational capacity. The UCI has already announced that in 2027 it will strive for an even higher level of organization.
Road, track, BMX… and new disciplines
In addition to mountain biking, the event will host all elite cycling disciplines:
Road: The road race will start and finish in Sallanches, where Bernard Hinault won the world championship gold in 1980. The course will be brutal: 266 km and 5,700 meters of elevation gain, including the legendary climb to the Côte de Domancy (2.5 km at 9.4%).
Time trial: around Lake Annecy, offering a spectacular setting.
Track: will be held at the Olympic velodrome in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.
BMX and urban disciplines: will take place in metropolitan areas specifically adapted for the event.
New formats: Disciplines such as gravel, wheeled events, bike polo, and eSports will make their debut. A strategic commitment from the UCI
With this event, the UCI continues its strategy of promoting cycling globally as a spectacle and social phenomenon, transforming the traditional World Championships format into a true sporting and media celebration. This edition will be the prelude to new joint mega-events, such as the one already planned for this year in Valais, Switzerland, which will serve as preparation for what will take place in 2027.
