The great time trial specialist Walter Vargas, reached this Thursday in Uruguay his sixth Pan American title in the individual time trial. The Team Medellin-EPM rider climbed to the top of the podium in Punta del Este, Uruguay, ratifying his potential in this modality.

“Uruguay brings me very nice memories, happy to continue making history in this championship is something I like. A specialty that I prepare a lot, I always try to improve every day and there you see the results is a test that advances technologically very fast, “said Vargas at the end of the test.

Riding at an average speed of 50.38 km / h, Vargas won the gold medal by imposing an unbeatable 46 minutes 48 seconds, for the 39.3 kilometers over which this test was developed against the stopwatch in Charrúa territory.

The rider from Antioquia beat by more than a minute his compatriot Rodrigo Contreras, who averaged 48.36 km/h, to win the silver medal. The third step of the podium was completed by Brazilian Diego de Jesús Mendes, who lost 2 minutes and 12 seconds to Vargas.

In the U23 individual time trial, Mateo Kalejmam from Argentina won the title, after crossing the 39.3 kilometers with the shortest time. Colombia continued adding medals with Juan Diego Quintero and Freddy Ávila in silver and bronze, respectively.

Kalejmam was third last year in the same race held in Brazil. The Gaucho runner won comfortably with a time of 48:16″.
