This Wednesday, October 29, the sixth stage of the 2025 Tour of Guatemala took place, a demanding 90.5-kilometer route from Catarina, San Marcos, to San Juan Ostuncalco, Quetzaltenango. The stage included four categorized climbs, most notably the hors catégorie ascent of San Miguel Chiquito, which tested all the participants.
Colombian Yeison Reyes of Orgullo Paisa secured the victory with a time of 2:53:46, setting his pace on the stage’s most challenging climbs. Juan Carlos López of GW Erco Shimano crossed the finish line in second place with the same time in a very close finish, while Guatemalan Julio Ispaché of Decorabaños Bantrab finished third, 20 seconds behind, establishing himself as the best Guatemalan rider of the day.
Reyes not only took the stage victory but also dominated the mountain classification, accumulating 33 points across the four categorized climbs and becoming the new leader of this special classification. His performance on the hors catégorie climb of San Miguel Chiquito was crucial in securing his win.
Julio Ispaché of Decorabaños delivered the best Guatemalan performance of the day, finishing third, just 20 seconds behind the winner.
A significant change in the general classification is that Julio Ispaché became the highest-placed Guatemalan in the Vuelta, moving into eighth place overall, 6:07 behind the leader, after the sixth stage.
Colombian Cristián Muñoz of NU Colombia retains the yellow jersey as overall leader with an accumulated time of 21:36:55. Óscar Garzón of GW Erco Shimano climbed to second place, just 1 second behind the leader, while Carlos Gutiérrez of Movistar Best PC dropped to third, 5 seconds back. The battle for the yellow jersey is tighter than ever.
Yeison Reyes’ victory in this sixth stage solidifies Orgullo Paisa as one of the strongest teams in the competition, while Julio Ispache’s performance keeps Guatemalan hopes alive for more stage wins in the remaining days.
With four stages left, the mountains will continue to play a key role in the coming days, providing climbers with new opportunities to shine and ultimately determining the champion of this 64th edition, which has delivered excitement from its start in Teculután, Zacapa, to its conclusion on the Guatemala City ring road on November 2nd.
