In a thrilling finish, Ukrainian Yuliia Biriukova emerged victorious in the 2016 El Salvador Grand Prix. The European cyclist from Laboral Kutxa-Fundación Euskadi proved the strongest in the breakaway and won in the district of Santa Elena.
The podium of the Salvadoran one-day race was completed by Briton Francesca Hall (Roland Cogeas Cycling Team) and Colombian Angie Mariana Londoño (Colombian National Team), who finished second and third, respectively.
Other notable Salvadoran cyclists included María Angélica Delgado (Core Racing) in 7th place and Paula Patiño (Laboral Kutxa – Fundación Euskadi) in 11th, more than three minutes behind the winner.
After two Grand Prix (GP) races and the conclusion of the 2026 Tour of El Salvador, which consisted of four stages and a prologue, two teams, Laboral Kutxa-Euskadi and Cogeas Roland, are currently the main contenders.
The head-to-head battle between these two leading squads in the races that have been traversing El Salvador for several days now is clearly highlighting the country’s tourism potential.
The stages are notable for passing through breathtaking landscapes, perhaps even inspiring some riders who, at the end of each stage, speak of the country’s beauty, its mountains, volcanoes, and lakes. The Ukrainian rider secured the Basque team’s sixth victory in the Central American country in just one week.
The new Central American race, part of the 2026 Tour of El Salvador, covered 76 kilometers over rolling terrain and included 15 Colombian cyclists among the 94 athletes who started.
