The 2024 Road Cycling World Championships will take place from September 22 to 29 next year in Zurich (Switzerland). All the races will start from the Sechseläutenplatz, a square in the center of Zurich, on the shores of the lake of the same name, for both the long-distance and time trial events.

Depending on the race, the start will be from one of the following places: Zurich (Sechseläutenplatz or Oerlikon open-air velodrome), Gossau, Uster or Winterthur, the latter three cities in the canton of Zurich.

The elite men’s long-distance race will start in Winterthur and will cover a distance of 273.9 km, with a cumulative elevation gain of 4,470 m. It will finish with seven laps of a 27 km (501 m elevation gain) final circuit in and around Zurich.

The main difficulties of the course will be the climbs to Kyburg (1.2 km with an average gradient of 12% and a maximum of 16%), Zürichbergstrasse (1.1 km with an average gradient of 8% and a maximum of 15%) and Witikon (2.3 km with an average gradient of 5.7% and a maximum of 9%).

The women’s elite long-distance race will start in Uster and will cover a distance of 154.1 km with a cumulative elevation gain of 2,488 m. It will finish with four laps of the same final circuit as the elite men’s race. In addition to the difficulties of the final circuit already mentioned, she will face the climb to Binz (4.6 km with an average gradient of 4.5% and a maximum of 9%).

The mixed relay time trial will take place over two laps (one women’s and one men’s) of the aforementioned final circuit. The elite men’s individual time trial will start on the track of the Oerlikon velodrome. The course (46.1 km and a gradient of 413 m) is mostly flat, but will include an uphill section towards the middle of the race.

The elite women’s individual time trial (29.9 km and 327 m ascent) will start in Gossau. The course will have a similar profile, with an uphill section, in this case just before the halfway point of the race.
