The cyclist Alex Strah, from the Panama es Cultura y Valores team, won Thursday the second stage of the Tour of San Carlos, which is being held these days in Costa Rica.
The stage, of 122.9 kilometers between Ciudad Quesada and Venecia, included three flying goals and a mountain prize. Despite Strah’s victory, local cyclist Pablo Mudarra Segura, from the Colono Bikestation Kolbi team, maintains the overall leadership, wearing the yellow jersey after the day’s race.
With his victory, Strah managed to reduce the 37-second gap that separated him from Mudarra. Although both now have the same time in the general classification, the Costa Rican retains the first place due to his better position in the two previous stages.
The end of the stage was defined in a thrilling sprint between Strah and Mudarra’s teammate Sergio Arias. However, the power and experience of former Central American road champion Alex Strah allowed him to cross the finish line first and take the victory.
“We felt very good today in a race that has always had a very high level. We will continue to fight in the next stages, as we have a demanding end of the season coming up, with the Tour of Panama in October,” said Strah after his victory.
This Friday, the third stage of the XLIII Tour of San Carlos will be run, an individual time trial of 20.19 kilometers between Muelle and San Rosa de Pocococí.
