In an intense battle on unpaved roads, Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies) won in spectacular fashion on Sunday the ninth stage of the Tour de France, which was contested over 199 kilometers around Troyes, where Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) remained the leader of the French round.
With a great acceleration in the last meters, the French rider defeated his breakaway companions. Briton Tom Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers) and Canadian Derek Gee (Israel – Premier Tech) were second and third with the same time as Turgis.
As for the overall individual classification, Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) leads, closely followed by Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Ineos Grenadiers) and Danish Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike), 33 and 1:15 behind the maillot jaune.
Regarding the Colombians, Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain-Victorius) was the best in 34th place, then followed by Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) in 51st place, both entered with the group of favorites at 1:46. While Harold Tejada (Astana Qazaqstan) and Fernando Gaviria (Movistar Team) came behind more than 11 minutes from the winner.
The Grand Bouclé, which will have its first rest day on Monday, will return on Tuesday with the tenth stage, a flat 187.3-kilometer day between Orléans and Saint-Amand-Montrond with no categorized mountain obstacles.
