Cuban cyclist Arlenis Sierra will start her second season with the prestigious Movistar team in the Costa de Almería Women Sport 2023 one-day race, on January 29.
Arlenis, recently awarded among the ten most outstanding athletes in Cuba in 2022 and as the best hired, continues in the selection of 15 cyclists led by Annemiek van Vleuten, Olympic and world champion, and first in the universal ranking.
The 30-year-old Manzanillera excelled in 2022 individually and as a teammate of the exceptional runner from the Netherlands; she once again conquered the Pan-American road crown and secured a ticket for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023.
From December 9 to 20, Sierra took part in a rally in Alicante, Spain, as well as in the official presentation in Madrid of the women’s and men’s teams sponsored by Telefónica de España for the upcoming season.
Together with Sierra and Vleuten, who deserved the Vélo d’Or award for the first time given to women, the young Danish Emma Norsgaard, protagonist of outstanding performances, and the Australian Sara Gigante appear again, according to the club’s official website.
There is also the Serbian Jelena Eric, the French Aude Biannic, the Colombian Paula Patiño, the Norwegian Katrine Aslerud and the Spanish Sheyla Gutiérrez and Sara Martín, who lead the five from that nation.
The distinguished team, among the 10 with the highest road category of the International Cycling Union, reinforced for this 2023 with two of a respectable level: the climber Liane Lippert, holder of Germany, and the Dutch Floortje Mackaij, of recognized skills.
