The Colombian cyclist Egan Bernal and the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz lead the armada of America in the Volta a Catalunya, which from March 20 to 26 will bring together many of the world’s road cycling stars, as part of the preparation for the season of high level ahead.

Bernal will compete again in a great race in the Volta a Catalunya, after the serious accident he suffered at the beginning of 2022 in Colombia, and which made him undergo surgery to recover from fractures in some vertebrae, the femur, the patella and several ribs.

The winner of the 2019 Tour and the 2021 Giro will be in the Vuelta from March 20 to 26, at the start of the season in Europe, after the knee injury he suffered in the Vuelta a San Juan (Argentina) and which has kept him for months. and a half in recovery, as reported by his INEOS Grenadiers team.

Since the serious injury he suffered more than a year ago, the Colombian had only participated in the Tour of San Juan this year and in the Tour of Denmark, the German Tour, the Giro della Toscana and the Sabatini Cup last year.

Bernal’s main objective in these months is to achieve a good physical, mental and sporting condition to participate in the Tour de France, which begins on July 1.

In the Volta, the Colombian will not arrive as squad leader, in a team made up of the Spanish Jonathan Castroviejo, Ethan Hayter, Luke Plapp, Salvatore Puccio, Geraint Thomas and Ben Tullet.

Egan Bernal was going to participate in the Coppi e Bartali Week, but a change of decision by the English team meant that he was finally going to participate in the Catalan round.
