The Colombian cyclist Brayan Sánchez (Team Medellín-EPM) demonstrated his power in the packing to win the fifth stage of the Tour of Panama 2023 this Wednesday, a journey that took place over 102 kilometers starting and finishing in Fuerte Sherman, in the province of Colón .

Sánchez led the main group, which had absorbed a breakaway trident with ten kilometers to go, made up of the Guatemalan José Canastuj (PPP Development) and the Panamanians Christofer Jurado (National Aeronaval Service) and Nolberto Hernández (Panama is Culture and Values).

The Panamanian Carlos Samudio (Rali Giant) was second in the stage and the podium was completed by the Costa Rican Sebastián Brenes (Seven Card-Economy-Lacoinex) who also recorded 2 hours 21 minutes and 47 seconds.

Oscar Sevilla (Team Medellín-EPM) entered the main group keeping the Rali red shirt as leader of the individual general classification with a time of 9 hours and 18 minutes, escorted by Carlos Samudio (Rali Giant) 28 seconds behind and the Colombian Wilmar Paredes (Team Medellín-EPM) at 1:44 minutes.

  “We dedicate this victory as a team to our teammate Miguel Ángel López. A great job was done on the road by all of us, taking into account that the course had very narrow parts, however, in the end we were able to neutralize the escape that was occurring from three riders and launch ourselves for the victory”, commented sprinter Brayan Sanchez.

The Mountain Awards had movement with the dispute of a third category one located on the Atlantic Bridge that was won today by Christofer Jurado; however, the champion of this section was the Spanish Oscar Sevilla who totaled 18 points.

For his part, Oscar Sevilla, pointed out that they will try to maintain that leadership this Thursday at the end of the Tour, taking into account that he has the local Carlos Samudio 28 seconds behind.

“We still have one day of competition left, we are very focused to look for this title”, commented Sevilla.

Regarding the Classification by Points, the “tico” Sebastián Brenes (Seven Card-Economy-Lacoinex) continues to lead with 45 units.

This Thursday the last stage of the Tour of Panama 2023 will take place, taking place at Cinta Costera 3, in Panama City. There will be 111 kilometers in total, divided into 15 laps, with three intermediate sprints, starting at 10:00 in the morning.
