The second day of competition, held at the Adventure Park in Heredia, Costa Rica, as part of the third round of the National Mountain Bike Cup, awarded UCI points and “Golden Tickets,” which grant the right to participate in the UCI Mountain Bike World Series.
This Sunday, the American Series MTB concluded at the Adventure Park in Barva, Heredia, with the Olympic Cross Country (XCO) race in the Junior, Under-23, and Elite categories.
The event, sanctioned by the Pan American Cycling Confederation (COPACI) and organized by the National Mountain Bike Association (ANCM) and the Costa Rican Cycling Federation (FECOCI), featured 72 riders from the United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Puerto Rico, Honduras, and Costa Rica, who battled for victory amidst rain and mud.
The Brazilian team dominated the Elite category with Giuliana Salvini (GEN2RISE) and José Gabriel Marques (COD Racing). Salvini completed the five laps of the 4.5-kilometer track in 1 hour, 32 minutes, and 48 seconds, beating Puerto Rican Suheily Rodríguez (Síntesis Development Team) by 2 minutes and 15 seconds and Costa Rican Adriana Rojas (CBZ DEKRA) by 5 minutes and 44 seconds.
Meanwhile, José Gabriel Marques (COD Racing) took the victory in the men’s category, crossing the finish line first after six laps in 1 hour, 28 minutes, and 15 seconds of racing, followed by Colombians Jhonnatan Botero and Jerónimo Bedoya of GW Erco SportFitness, 2 minutes and 55 seconds and 4 minutes and 38 seconds behind, respectively.
In the Under-23 category, Canada and Costa Rica shared the honors with Tristan Taillefer (Pivot Ote Continental) and Isabel García (Colono Bikestation Kolbi), respectively. Taillefer edged out Chilean Maximiliano San Martín (ER Ciclismo Chile) by 1 minute 33 seconds and Costa Rican Fabricio Raabe (Colono Bikestation Kolbi) by 2 minutes 34 seconds. Costa Rican Adriano González (Colono Bikestation Kolbi) finished fourth, 5 minutes 50 seconds behind, and Canadian Alix Brunelle (Siboire Quiroule) came in fifth, 6 minutes 16 seconds back.
Meanwhile, Isabel García (Colono Bikestation Kolbi) easily outpaced American Katerina Wester (Donovan Racing), while Alison Núñez (Desamparados Bike Café) completed the podium for the locals in third place.
Finally, the Junior category was dominated by Colombia with Pan American champion Daniela Gaviria and Santiago Quintero, both representing GW Erco SportFitness. Gaviria dominated the course, finishing 11’40” ahead of Costa Rican Maidelyn Madrigal (Team Innovabikes Skoler) and 13’37” ahead of Peruvian Alice Legard (Gigant Perú Sin Fronteras). Costa Ricans Brenda Barquero (CCDR Buenos Aires) and Leonor Fernanda Rivera (CCDR Escazú) finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Santiago Quintero took first place, followed by Costa Rican Alejandro Acuña (Team Innovabikes Skoler) 2’59” behind and Puerto Rican Yandel De Jesús (Sport Science Racing) 5’39” behind. Costa Rican riders Valentino Aguilar (CCDR Paraíso) and Joshua Ulate (Mecatronics MCT COMPONENTS) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
In addition to medals and champion’s jerseys, the top three finishers in each category received a “Golden Ticket,” which grants them the right to compete in a WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series round of their choice within 52 weeks of receiving it.
