The competition was scheduled to take place from June 30 to July 4, 2021, just a few weeks before the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, but the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) and the president of the Olympic Committee from Trinidad and Tobago, Brian Lewis, proposed the postponement of the meeting.
New dates for 2022 are now being considered, although Guadeloupe is ready for the fight, after obtaining the rights to host the Caribbean Games in January 2021.
Previously, an inaugural edition had been scheduled in Trinidad and Tobago in July 2009, but it was not held due to logistical issues.
