After ten grueling days of racing, the Swiss cyclist Colin Stüssi became the new champion of the Tour of Portugal, which this year celebrated its 84th edition and was attended by several Latino cyclists, including Colombians, Uruguayans and Brazilians.

The Swiss Colin Stüssi, from Team Vorarlberg, was crowned the winner after four days as the leader of the test. In this way, at the age of 30 he achieved his first great cycling victory in a European national tour, by positioning himself in first place in the individual general classification with 40 hours, 59 minutes and 26 seconds of travel.

The Spanish Txomin Juaristi (of the Euskatel-Euskadi team) was second, with 1 minute and 4 seconds more, while the Portuguese António Carvalho (of the ABTF BETÃO – Feirense) was third, 1 minute and 7 seconds later.

They were followed by the Russian Artem Nych (+01:28), from Glassdrive/Q8/Anicolor and who has competed under a neutral flag; the Spanish Luis Ángel Maté (+01:40), from Euskatel-Euskadi; the Portuguese Henrique Casimiro (+01:43), from Efapel Cycling; and the Australian James Whelan (+04:22), from Glassdrive/Q8/Anicolor.

The Spaniards Mikel Iturria (+05:55), from Euskatel Euskadi, and Jesús del Pino (06:01), from Aviludo Louletano-Loulé Concelho, finished the race in ninth and tenth place overall, respectively.

In the time trial that closed the Tour of Portugal, 18.2 kilometers long and in which Juaristi took first place (24:56.37), Stüssi was third (+00:26.18).

The Uruguayan Mauricio Moreira (Glassdrive/Q8/Anicolor), who won the previous edition of the Volta a Portugal, came second (+03.21 seconds).

After knowing the results, the Vorarlerg sports director, Werner Salmen, celebrated Stüssi’s victory, calling it “a dream” and assuring that it is because “the whole team did well” and achieved “a perfect race”.

In statements to local media, he acknowledged that “everyone is happy” and assured that it is “the best result” of the group: “For us it is the biggest title. We have won two from Austria but winning the Volta a Portugal is a step”, he affirmed .

The 84th Volta a Portugal, which took place from August 9 to 20, consisted of a prologue and 10 stages, with the town of Viseu (center of the country) as the starting point and Viana do Castelo (north) as the finish line. the proof; with the participation of 177 cyclists from 18 teams.
