Colombian cycling was the main protagonist in the El Espectador-Movistar 2023 Athlete of the Year ceremony, receiving this Monday five of the awards given at the Gala held at the Connecta Business and Events Center in Bogotá

Kevin Santiago Quintero was recognized as the best athlete of the year and the most voted on the Internet, after his world title in the keirin at the World Cycling Championships held in Glasgow and his multiple medals in events of the Olympic cycle.

In this same category, Martha Bayona, world keirin runner-up and national figure in the last Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, obtained second place.

In the youth category, the world omnium champion, world runner-up in the pursuit, and recent champion in the Vuelta del Futuro, Juliana Londoño, was recognized with the third place trophy.

The National Track Coach, John Jaime González, was awarded as Technician of the Year, the great architect of the national triumphs in the Elite and Junior Track World Championships held during the season, as well as in the events of the Olympic cycle in which Colombia was always the protagonist. .

These five awards and the 11 nominations in six categories are great recognition of the work and results of Colombian cycling during this season.

It should be remembered that among the nominees were: Jorge Mauricio Vargas Carreño, President of the Colombian Cycling Federation, for leader of the year; Santiago Buitrago (route), athlete of the year; Stefany Cuadrado (track), Germán Darío Gómez (road) and Valentina Roa (MTB), for youth athlete of the year; and Daniela Carolina Munévar and Paula Ossa (paracycling), for Best athlete in the Paralympic category.
