The Costa Rican cyclist Jason Huertas won in Panama the fourth stage of the XLIV International Tour of Chiriqui, which today enters the fifth of eight chapters until next Thursday.
Huertas, of the Costa Fruit-Giant team, won in the final stretch of the race over local rider Franklin Archibold (Panama es Cultura y Valores) to cross the finish line and take the victory with a time of one hour and 50 minutes.
The third place went to the Cuban José Domínguez, who was 36 seconds behind the winner, a goal that this squad had very close in the previous stages of the event, always including representatives in the top 10.
The stage consisted of a closed circuit of 82 kilometers, agreed to 20 laps, which took place in the surroundings of the grounds where the International Fair of San José de David is held.
In this way, Huertas became the first foreign cyclist to obtain a stage victory in this version of the Chiriqui Tour.
After four completed stages, the Panamanian David Diaz (Rally Giant) remains the leader of the overall individual classification with an accumulated time of nine hours, 58 minutes and nine seconds.
He is joined on the podium by his compatriot Bolívar Espinosa (Panama es Cultura y Valores), who is in second place, seven seconds behind, and Michael Caballero (Rally Giant), who is third, 16 seconds behind.
Colombian Edison Osorio (Comercializadora Farmacia Birdman) is fourth in the general classification, 18 seconds behind, and Costa Rican Andrés Alpízar (Ciclo Coffe) is fifth, 29 seconds behind.
This Monday, the action will continue in a mountain course with a distance of 122.4 kilometers, with the participation of 76 cyclists from Cuba, Mexico, United States, Costa Rica, Colombia and the host country.
The section of the competition includes three intermediate sprints and a mountain prize at the finish line.
The International Cycling Tour of Chiriqui has been held since 1967 and is one of the main cycling competitions in Central America.
