HAVANA. Cuba copied the awards podium of the women’s individual route of the XIX Caribbean Cycling Championship, after the victory of Heidy Praderas in the final sprint.

Podium Road Elite Men

Praderas (2:18:07 hours), of the professional club Astana Women´s Team, surpassed the compatriot Iraida Garcia (2:18:07), Pan-American monarch in 2016, and then also entered the local Idaris Cervantes (2: 23.12), in an unprecedented performance in this regional lid.

I am very happy for this result and I dedicate it to all those who supported me, said the one born in the province of Sancti Spiritus, about 357 kilometers from this capital, converted into a spectacular headquarters.

The seven-lane crossing to an 11.2-kilometer circuit had a good atmosphere, without too strong heat and resulted in other activities for the 500 years of the foundation of the Villa de San Cristóbal de La Habana.

Heidy added from Saturday the silver medal in the individual time trial, when with 35:11 minutes it was behind the holder Caitlin Conyers, of Bermuda, and surpassed the champion of 2018, Alexi Costa, of Trinidad and Tobago.

In the case of the men’s route, the Cuban Felix Nodarse took the crown, with time of 3: 10.01 hours, ahead of Oscar Quiroz (3: 10.01), from Belize, and Lutin Larry (3: 10.01), from Guadalupe , after 123.2 kilometers.

The under-23 category had Alejandro Parra, who also stopped the stopwatches at 3: 11.47 hours, to beat Ursen Adriel (3: 11.47) and Clavier Kedric (3: 11.47), both of Guadalupe.

Under the organization of the International Cycling Union (UCI), the nineteenth edition of the Caribbean Road Championship was attended by more than 100 riders from 25 nations.

Representatives of those territories attended the Congress of the Caribbean Confederation of the discipline, which took place at the Hotel Comodoro, and was chaired by the head of the UCI, the Frenchman David Lappartient.

The male and female modalities awarded points for the world ranking to the top 10 places, as part of the qualifying process for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. (Prensa Latina)
