Mexican Isaac del Toro has moved into third place in the world rankings after his victory at the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, behind his teammate, Serbian Tadej Pogačar, and Dane Jonas Vingegaard, according to the latest update of the world rankings and the UCI World Tour classification.
Slovenian Pogačar lost some of the points he was defending this week, as he had won the French race in 2015 when it was still known as the Critérium du Dauphiné. Despite this, he retains first place with 10,865 points, maintaining a considerable lead over Jonas Vingegaard, who is second with 8,625.1.
The biggest surprise in the top tier of the rankings was Isaac del Toro’s rise. The Mexican confirmed his excellent form with an outstanding performance in the Tour de France, where he won two stages and the overall classification.
This haul allowed him to return to third place in the rankings with 5,339.7 points. Even so, the gap to Pogacar and Vingegaard remains significant, reflecting the consistency both have shown over the last 12 months.
Del Toro’s rise causes Remco Evenepoel to drop to fourth position. The Belgian did not start the French race and remains with 5,277.9 points, now behind the UAE Team Emirates – XRG rider.
Meanwhile, Paul Seixas maintains seventh place in the world rankings despite having to abandon the race, demonstrating that the young Frenchman’s great start to the season continues to sustain his position among the elite.
