The Colombian BMX Team had an excellent weekend at the first and second rounds of the World Cup, held in Sarrians, France. The star of the show was Diego Arboleda, who shone on Sunday and won the second round in the elite men’s category, while Juan Velázquez Carmona finished sixth in the under-23 category.
The Antioquian BMX rider once again made his mark at the world championships, following his second-place finish the previous day. Arboleda displayed a high level of performance in each of the heats and confirmed his current form to secure first place.
“I’m really happy with the victory. I had set this as a personal challenge for myself. I’m turning 30 in a few months, and I’m approaching all of this with a lot of maturity and am happy to have achieved it,” Arboleda told the UCI channel.
“I’m really happy with the victory. The elite podium was completed by Frenchman Eddy Clerte and American Cameron Wood. The other Colombian in the competition, Carlos Ramírez, was eliminated in the semifinals.
The Colombian BMX team, participating in the UCI World Cup thanks to the support of the Ministry of Sport, the Colombian Olympic Committee, and the Colombian Cycling Federation, will compete again next weekend in Papendal, Netherlands, in rounds 3 and 4.
