Egan Bernal has already defined the first races that he will compete at the start of a new season with the INEOS Grenadiers. In this case, he will be present in the National Road Championships at the end of January, as well as in the Tour Colombia 2.1, being the leader of the national team led by Carlos Mario Jaramillo.

While this is happening, the man born in Zipaquirá had the opportunity to celebrate his 27th birthday on January 13 with a ride in which many people participated heading to the Cundinamarca municipality of Sopó. In it, he announced some of the races that he will compete once his journey in national territory ends.

“Normally I do O Gran Camiño, then I go to Strade-Bianche, I also do Vuelta a Catalunya, Vuelta al País Vasco and Tour de Romandie. At the moment, I’m focused on Tour Colombia 2.1, I want to start from there and that depends on how everything follows. You have to be open to all possibilities,” he said in an interview with Mundo Ciclístico Magazine.

Although he did not officially confirm it, Egan would return to run the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España as the two major races he will compete in 2024, something he did the previous year with the INEOS to regain condition in the middle of the process that he also carried out after the road accident suffered in 2022.

In this way, the former champion of the Tour in 2019 and the Giro d’Italia in 2021 continues his preparation before competing in the National Road Championships in the department of Boyacá, a race that he could not compete in 2023 after the injury he suffered in the Vuelta. to San Juan.

On the other hand, he has good motivation to run this edition of the Tour Colombia 2.1, since the fourth stage will end in his native Zipaquirá, where he hopes to celebrate in style with his countrymen.

The most recent competition that this rider won was in 2021, when he climbed to the top of the podium at the Giro d’Italia. At that time, Bernal completed the corresponding route with an accumulated time of 86 hours, 17 minutes and 28 seconds. And, with this, he added his second victory in the general classification of a grand tour, since in 2019 he did the same in the Tour de France.
