The Colombian team secured eight gold medals on the opening day of the second stop of the Track Cycling Americas Cup, currently being held at the Luis Carlos Galán Velodrome in Bogotá, with the participation of 11 countries and more than 200 cyclists.

In the women’s team pursuit, the hosts claimed their first title when the quartet of Elizabeth Castaño, Luciana Osorio, Lina Hernández, and Andrea Alzate defeated their Mexican counterparts, comprised of Maria Figueroa, Maria Villanueva, Anet Barrera, and Maria Gaxiola. The Bogotá Mixed Team took the bronze.

A similar result was seen in the men’s team pursuit. The Colombian team of Anderson Arboleda, Juan Esteban Arango, Brayan Stiven Sánchez, and Wilmar Paredes dominated, finishing ahead of the Mexican team of Sebastian Ruiz, Ignacio Prado, Marcelo Garza, and Fausto Martínez. The Boyacá Mixed team took third place.

Colombia’s third gold medal came from the women’s sprint team (Stefany Cuadrado, Juliana Gaviria, and Yarli Mosquera), who outperformed Venezuela. The bronze medal went to the trio from the Valle team. The men’s sprint also saw a close finish between the hosts and Venezuela, with Mexico claiming third place.

In the individual events, Lina Marcela Hernández won gold in the elimination race (where Colombia swept the podium) and in the scratch race; Stefany Cuadrado in the keirin; and Brayan Stiven Sánchez in the men’s elimination race.

Mexico broke the home team’s dominance in the men’s keirin when Ismael Verdugo Osuna raised his hands in victory, while his teammate Ridley Naim Malo took the bronze medal. In total, the Mexican delegation earned six medals on this day: one gold, three silver, and two bronze.

Ecuador, through Sebastian Leonidas Novoa (Team Pichincha), secured the gold medal in the scratch race, relegating Mexico’s Ignacio Prado to silver and Colombia’s Anderson Arboleda to bronze.

It is worth noting that this competition is part of the qualifying process for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, and also awards UCI ranking points in all elite category events.
