In another blistering finish, Italian Elisa Balsamo repeated her victory for the third time, winning the third stage of the Giro d’Italia Femminile. The stage, which started in Bibione and finished in Buja, covered a distance of 156 kilometers.

“My goal today was to keep the Maglia Rosa, so to win again is incredible. It was a very tough day, but the team, once again, did an exceptional job. I had reconnoitered this stage beforehand, I knew the finish very well, and I was prepared,” said Balsamo after the stage.

The Lidl-Trek sprinter easily outsprinted American Lily Williams (Human Powered Health) and Dutch rider Femke Gerritse (Team SD Worx-Protime), who finished second and third, respectively.

As for the only South American rider in the competition, Brazilian Ana Vitória Magalhães (Movistar Team) finished in 32nd place with the same time as the winner, while Cuban Arlenis Sierra (Movistar Team) crossed the finish line in 89th place, more than 6 minutes behind the winner.

The Giro d’Italia for women, which does not include any Colombian riders, continues this Tuesday with the fourth of nine scheduled stages, a 12.7-kilometer individual time trial between Belluno and Nevegal.
