The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar will compete in the 2024 Giro d’Italia. The transalpine race itself has announced it through its social networks. The UAE Team Emirates rider will thus completely change his own campaign to try to win the pink jersey.

In an unexpected change of events, the Corsa Rosa has announced news that, without a doubt, will change the development of the 2024 cycling season. Pogacar, after two years finishing second in the Tour de France behind Jonas Vingegaard , has decided to turn his year around by seeking to expand his record in transalpine lands.

The Slovenian will debut in the Italian round as the top favorite for the title within a participation list in which, apart from Wout van Aert and Cian Uijtdebroeks, there are no big stars.

It is unknown if Tadej will then want to do the Giro-Tour double or will try an alternative calendar like the one Primoz Roglic did in 2023 and then will try to race the Vuelta a España and a World Cup that could suit his characteristics very well.

The Corsa Rosa starts on May 4 in Venaria Reale and ends in Rome. The route includes 68 kilometers of time trials and a mountainous route that has its first peak in the second stage, in the Santuario di Oropa.

The Giro is the only Grand Tour that Pogacar has left to run, and with this he will also have the opportunity to complete his record of victories in all the Grand Tours since he has four Tours of France and one Tour of Spain. Furthermore, the intention is to achieve a Giro-Tour double that we have not seen since Marco Pantani in 1998. The wait will be long.
