Filippo Ganna comes out as one of the great favorites to be a protagonist in road cycling at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, time trial and long-distance, in track he also wants to shine and he has so many other objectives there, that he prefers the Olympic Games to the Tour de France.
Many will have to decide between the Tour or the Olympics, as they are close dates in which these events of great magnitude take place. One of the great figures, Filippo Ganna, is clear about his objectives, his priorities, so he will not hesitate to go to the Olympic Games:
The 2024 cycling season will be one of the most special in living memory, because there are a lot of stars who will go to the 2024 Tour de France (such as Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Primoz Roglic and Remco Evenepoel), where they will fight for the win, while they will not compete in the Olympic Games in Paris.
This is both a blessing for cycling fans and a curse for the competitors, as many of them have been forced to choose one of the two competitions to perform at the highest level and seek victory.
This is the case of Filippo Ganna of INEOS Grenadiers, who in his latest statements announced that he will have to forgo the Grande Boucle in order to be 100% for the challenge of the Olympic Games.
“My big goals are an Olympic gold medal and then a second gold,” said Ganna, who will compete in both the road and track events. “I will have to give up the 2024 Tour de France and it’s a shame, also considering the Italian start, but the Games are the Games. With such a big goal in mind, I’ll go first to the Giro d’Italia with the idea of winning some stages, to also give myself a morale boost ahead of Paris.”
“In the team pursuit, we will have to face Denmark. They are always strong. Great Britain has also reached a high level again. We will have to work hard to be able to compete with these two teams, and also with Australia. Many teams are growing and the level is very high.
Regarding the route, I want to arrive in optimal conditions, also because there will be a week before the track tests. We know that if I arrive in the best possible condition for the first race, I will also be ready for the second one. I want to start well right away, with the time trial. Now I’m still young and I think I can do both disciplines at a high level. When we realize that it won’t be possible anymore, maybe we’ll change our goals,” he finished.
In addition to the Olympic Games, Filippo Ganna has confirmed that he will go to the Giro d’Italia, with the Volta ao Algarve, Tirreno Adriatico, Milan-San Remo and the Tour of the Alps on his agenda, while his presence at Paris-Roubaix remains unknown.
