Mexican cyclist Gerardo Ulloa was crowned champion in the Short Track (XCC) event at the 2026 Pan American Mountain Bike Championships, held in San Juan del Paraná, Paraguay, until Sunday the 19th, consolidating his dominance in the discipline at the continental level.
Ulloa, who is currently ranked among the top 10 in the world, delivered a strategic performance in a race characterized by its explosive pace and high tactical demands. Argentine Andrés Soto Catriel finished in second place, and the bronze went to Brazilian Ulan Bastos.
“I’m very happy to be the new Pan American Short Track champion. It was a very fast, very tactical race; there were some very explosive riders, but I think I had a good strategy and I prepared very well,” he declared after crossing the finish line.
Mexican Dominance in Competition
The native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, added another Pan American title to his record, accumulating crucial points for the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) ranking and reaffirming his position among the world’s best.
José Gerardo Ulloa Arévalo, known as the “Monster of the Mountain,” has built a solid career in mountain biking, especially in the Olympic Cross-Country (XCO) and Short Track (XCC) disciplines.
Among his most outstanding achievements are: more than 11 national titles in Mexico; eight Pan American championships in various events; a gold medal at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima; and a historic victory at the 2020 XCO World Cup in Nové Město, the first for a Mexican.
He currently competes with the MASSI team, which has allowed him to establish himself on the European circuit and constantly compete against the international elite.
At 29, Ulloa is experiencing one of the best moments of his career. He remains among the top 10 in the world and continues to add international titles, establishing himself as one of Mexico’s top contenders for future global competitions, including the upcoming Olympic cycles.
