The emotions of a new Giro d’Italia Sub-23 started this Thursday with the triumph of the Italian Andrea Cantoni (EmiliaRomagna Cycling Team), while the hope of America, the riders of Colombia Tierra de Atletas – GW Shimano, did well with the best place for Yeisson Ferney Casallas (38th place)

Cantoni was the first hero of the race in a 144.5 kilometer segment between the towns of Cesenatico and Riccione and was dressed on the podium of the best as the absolute leader. A breakout, which managed to get a considerable advantage of minutes, together with Riccardo Bobbo (Work Service Marchiol Vega) and Michael Garrison (Hagens Berman Axeon) was the main protagonist of the opening day of the fair.

“The truth is that we have started this Giro d’Italia as we expected. It was a very fast stage but it will help us to achieve what we want, to add kilometers on our legs for the difficult and decisive days that are to come. This is a race that has to be contested with intelligence and the boys know well what they have to do ”, said Luis Alfonso Cely, coach of Colombia Tierra de Atletas – GW Shimano.

“All these young people want to appear and that makes the race nervous. Here you cannot spend more than you should because you end up paying it later. We have already seen how in big competitions like this type, you have a bad day and the general is gone. Here we must be very focused these 10 days and if we do things well the results will be reflected next Saturday June 12 in Castelfranco Veneto ”, concluded the sports director.

Colombia Tierra de Atletas – GW Shimano had a good day, arrived in the main batch and with the big favorites to win the event title. Jeisson Casallas and Brandon Rojas were the best men at the end of the marathon day. In the individual general classification, Cantoni has an advantage of 26 and 31 seconds over Bobbo and Garrison. While Jeisson Casallas and Brandon Rojas are placed 38 and 49 respectively, a difference of 47 seconds with respect to the first leader of the race.

This Friday the second chapter of the “Corsa Rosa” will be held with 138.3 kilometers between Riccione and Imola (2 mountain prizes of the 3rd category), and which has as an attraction on arrival, part of the route where the world championship of route from the previous year.
