The French David Lappartient, president of the International Cycling Union (UCI), expressed his condolences for the death of the UCI International Commissioner Pedro Frías, who died at night on May 27 in his native municipality of San Antonio de los Baños , in Artemisa, Cuba.

“I am very sorry for the death of Pedro Frías, UCI international commissioner and one of the greatest connoisseurs of cycling in the Americas,” says part of the message he wrote on his Facebook social network.

“My deepest condolences to his family and to all who knew him. Pedro will always be remembered in our hearts ”, concluded the head of the UCI, who accompanied his words with a photo of who was also a member of the Management Committee of the Pan American Cycling Confederation for more than 25 years.

Countless messages of condolences reached COPACI and its president José Manuel Peláez in the last few hours, among them also that of the President of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) of Cuba, Osvaldo Vento, who described the fact as ” an unfortunate loss for Cuban cycling”.
