The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) -recent winner of the Tour of Flanders-, continues advancing his preparation in order to win the Tour de France title; and therefore, he already knows what will be his next race, in which, among others, he will face the Colombian Sergio Higuita (BORA Hansgrohe) and the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz (EF Education).

Well, it turns out that Pogacar will compete again next Sunday, April 16, for the 57th edition of the classic Amstel Gol Race, where he will be the leader of the UAE Emirates; Higuita and Carapaz will do the same with their squads, according to the list of pre-registered that was known.

The 2023 edition will be Pogacar’s second participation in the great Dutch classic, two weeks after his great success in Flanders, which puts him -as in most of the races he runs- as a candidate for the title.

“Spring has already been a great success for us, but we really want to get to the Ardennes Classics and take home a great result, starting with the Amstel” commented Tadej Pogacar before heading to the Netherlands for the Classic.

In addition, he pointed out that “it is a race that I have only done once, but I know that it is a long and hard route with a lot of climbing, so we must be prepared for a difficult race”, taking into account that on Sunday 252.8 will be run. kilometers on a terrain with ups and downs but without unevenness that makes a difference.

For his part, Higuita comes from a good performance in the Tour of the Basque Country, where he won the fifth stage; Meanwhile, on that same day of the Spanish contest, the Olympic champion, Richard Carapaz, abandoned the race due to an allergic problem.

For Sunday’s Amstel, UAE Team Emirates will also have Sjoerd Bax, Ryan Gibbons, Félix Grossschartner, Marc Hirschi, Rui Oliveira and Matteo Trentin.
