Mexican rider Isaac Del Toro finished sixth in the elite men’s individual time trial at the 2026 Road World Championships, clocking a time of 46 minutes and 31 seconds.
Del Toro finished 1 minute and 38 seconds behind Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel, who claimed his fourth world time trial title. Italy’s Filippo Ganna took the silver medal, while France’s Paul Seixas rounded out the podium.
This result marks another impressive world championship performance for the Mexican cyclist, who previously placed fifth in the time trial at the 2025 Road World Championships in Kigali, Rwanda, with a time of 52:26.89.
Following the time trial, Del Toro will have a second chance to compete at the 2026 Road World Championships in the elite men’s road race, scheduled for Sunday, September 27, in Montreal, Canada, at 5:00 AM (Pacific Time).
‘El Torito’s’ main event
The Mexican rider now looks ahead to the event where his greatest hopes lie: the elite men’s road race. Given that this is his specialty—and following the successes achieved in the first half of the year—he arrives with high expectations of bettering his previous best (a seventh-place finish in 2026). However, he faces stiff competition from major rivals such as Evenepoel and Seixas—the other great “gem” of road cycling.
With his teammate for the remainder of the season, Tadej Pogačar, sidelined by injury, ‘El Torito’ will aim for the coveted rainbow jersey, supported by the Mexican squad accompanying him on this quest. The main event of the UCI World Championships—featuring Isaac del Toro—will kick off next Sunday, September 27, at exactly 7:00 AM Central Mexico Time. As the longest course of the entire competition (273.3 km), the race is expected to last between 6 and 7 hours.
The 2026 Montreal Road Cycling World Championships brings together nearly a thousand cyclists from around 100 countries and features 13 world titles across various categories and disciplines.
