Surprising the big favorites, Ivan Romeo won the men’s under-23 time trial of 29.9 kilometers of the Road Cycling World Championships 2024, disputed between Gossau and Zurich in Swiss territory.
The 21-year-old Spaniard managed to surprise the top favorites after a fabulous final stage. Romeo, in the service of Movistar Team, used a time of 36 minutes and 42 seconds to take the victory, more than 30 seconds ahead of his closest rival, Sweden’s Jakob Söderqvist, who finished second. Switzerland’s Jan Christen took the bronze.
The best Latin American rider was the Mexican Isaac del Toro, who finished 12th, 1:23 behind the winner. Meanwhile, Colombian Jefferson Ruiz finished 45th, 4:47” behind Romeo.
Ruiz will have another opportunity to demonstrate his conditions in the long-distance race with Mauricio Zapata Arboleda (Petrolike), William Colorado (GW Erco Shimano) and Jaider Muñoz (Team Sistecrédito) who on Friday 27 will face a distance of 173.6 kilometers.
